Dracula Face therapy, also known as Vampire Facelift or Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a type of skin rejuvenation treatment. PRP therapy works on body’s own healing process. Platelet-rich Plasma present in the blood cells of humans act as the main component of this treatment. PRP therapy is applied in a number of areas such as dentistry, neurosurgery, sports medicine, and so on. Initially, the treatment was used more often to treat scars and injuries; however, today it has gained more popularity as a cosmetic therapy.

Platelets are components of plasma which play a role in coagulation of blood in case of injury and vascular damage. This valuable small particle contains growth factors. They release these factors at the time of injury or bleeding to the surrounding tissues in order to enhance the healing process. These factors accelerate the synthesis of collagen by fibroblast and create new vessels in the skin. The process of revascularization enhances the Oxygen up take in the dermis which is a contributory factor in the metabolism of skin layersIt has not got any side effect or a little bit bruising may occur. The procedure starts with taking blood from the vein followed by centrifuging carefully in two different stages.

How does it Work?

PRP is new methods of skin rejuvenation in which your own body products are injected back to your skin.

The treatment begins once the patient’s expectations are set and discussed with the doctor. A definite amount of blood (usually 10-20 ml) is extracted from the patient. The blood is then centrifuged (spin at high speed) through a machine to separate platelet-rich plasma from the blood cells. The final products are called PRP which can be injected via 30G or 27G to the facial skin (or any other part of body).

The patient’s face is wiped using an antiseptic. A local anaesthesia is also applied to the region if required. The plasma is then injected with a fine needle within affected regions in the patient’s face. Platelets contain special growth factors which when injected within problem skin areas, help to heal the injured tissue or damaged skin and provide volume and plump appearance. After the treatment, an icepack may be used to reduce any swelling. The entire procedure takes nearly 30 minutes.

The procedure can be repeated every 3 to 6 weeks up to 4 to 5 injections followed by maintenance injection every 6 monthly. The effect would be noticeable from week 4 or 5 post first injection. Results of a single treatment may last up to one and a half years.

Applications

PRP therapy helps in filling out fine lines and wrinkles and gives a youthful appearance. Wrinkles are caused when our skin loses its elasticity. PRP provides favourable environment for the skin cells to regrow and even reverses the ageing process. This therapy can be used on the face, specifically in regions around the eyes, mouth, nose and also at the back of the hands. These are the regions where the wrinkles are more clearly visible. Medically, PRP therapy can also treat osteoarthritis and ligament or muscle injuries.

Side effects & Recommendations

Immediately after the procedure you can expect some bruising, swelling and redness in the region. Some tenderness and pain might be experienced post treatment. These side effects are temporary and tend to subside within a few days. Doctors recommend use of painkillers to treat soreness and pain, and use of ice cold packs to reduce redness and swelling in the affected area. Extra care should be taken while washing the face.

PRP therapy is a safe treatment to opt for as it is considered to be completely natural. A fully trained medical practitioner can provide hassle free treatment with desired results.
